I mostly vote for Democrats, but the hypocrisy and fear-mongering for individual political agendas is infuriating. It's almost as if runaway political agendas are leveraging fear instead of facts in the crusade to antagonize 2A. And yet the overwhelming majority of legislation and media coverage is directed at big scary rifles, particularly after mass shootings. Incredibly, I would also note that's fewer annual homicides from rifles than from "Personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.)". So only 5% of firearm homicides are from rifles. If we assume the unidentified firearms are proportional to the whole in terms of which type of firearm was used, this means about 91% were from handguns, 3% were from shotguns, and only 5% were from rifles, which includes modern sporting rifles like the AR15 (the final 1% is from "Other guns"). So 6,977 is the denominator here, NOT 10,258. The data show 10,258 total firearm homicides, however 3,281 of the total are from "Firearms, type not stated", meaning only 10,258 - 3,281 = 6,977 of the murders have the weapon identified. To be crystal clear, this is not what the FBI data show.
Handguns were used in 62% of the nation’s gun murders, including Ty's, in 2019, FBI data shows.
